Homeless Connect with Dr. Howard Osterman

Dr. Howard Osterman from our Silver Spring, MD (Fenton) and Washington, DC (1775 K Street) offices spoke with News4 Washington about Project Homeless Connect. Project Homeless Connect is a program by the United Way offering free services to those in need. They can come to get up to 70 services from a haircut, seeing a doctor, to getting their birth certificate or social security card. Dr. Howard Osterman from our Silver Spring, MD (Fenton) and Washington, DC (1775 K Street) offices shares why he volunteers for the Project Homeless Connect with the United Way. As part of the kindness initiative, Dr. Osterman and his offices have supplied free podiatry services for the United Way National Capitol Area’s project Homeless Connect for the past seven years. Dr. Osterman and his team love being able to give back to the community and see people getting the support they need.

Charlottesville Annual Shoe Drive

Charlottesville, VA podiatrist, Dr. Samuel Schustek is this year’s co-chair of the Let Someone Fill Your Shoes campaign. Together, the Salvation Army of Charlottesville and the Charlottesville Podiatry Association have been collecting donated shoes to distribute to those in need for 28 years. During the month of January, gently used shoes will be collected for distribution at the Salvation Army on February 23rd. Approximately 30 years ago, the APMA started a National campaign for collecting shoes for the homeless. FASMA Expands to Raleigh, NC

FASMA welcomes two new office locations and four new podiatric doctors in January with Raleigh Foot & Ankle Center joining our group. Dr. Robert Hatcher began the practice in 1977 as a solo practitioner. In 1999, Dr. Kirk Woelffer joined the practice. Later in 2006, Dr. Alan Boehm, Jr. was added and then Dr. Jordan Meyers in 2014. Dr. Melody Stouder Published in Journal of Foot and Ankle Research

Dr. Melody Stouder, of the Hagerstown division, was recently published in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research. In her article titled “Correlating Pre-Operative MRI Measurements of Metatarsal Osteomyelitis with Surgical Clean Margins Reveals the Need for a One Centimeter Resection Margin,” the researchers discuss how due to high incidence of forefoot ulcerations, there has been an increased demand for partial ray amputations. FASMA Participates in Relay for Life

Foot and Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic, LLC (FASMA) Reston, VA Division participated in the Relay for Life Event, a nationwide overnight fundraising event for cancer research, on May 16, 2015. Dr. Casey Friske Receives Wound Care Podiatrist Scholarship

FASMA Pursues NCQA Patient-Centered Care Recognition

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) launched its newest evaluation program, Patient-Centered Connected Care Recognition, on April 15.  This new evaluation recognizes and commends ambulatory care providers that share patients with primary care providers. More patients are choosing to receive care in non-traditional settings, such as urgent care centers and retail-based clinics.  As the source of care changes and patients see multiple providers, the level of coordination and communication between providers takes on greater importance.  NCQA will award seals to those sites that demonstrate extraordinary patient-centered connected care.
