Dr. Wagner G. Santiago was born and raised in Miami, Florida where he graduated from Southwest Miami High School. He attended University of South Carolina at Spartanburg where he received a scholarship to play soccer. He then attended school in Jacksonville, Florida where he earned a respiratory therapy license. After several years, he decided to return to medical school where he graduated with honors from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in North Miami Beach, FL earning his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM). He completed a three-year podiatric surgical residency at Podiatry Hospital of Pittsburgh and West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The training was inclusive of exposure in all areas of foot and ankle surgery, including forefoot and rearfoot reconstructive procedures and diabetic limb salvage. Dr. Santiago has been living in Gastonia, North Carolina, since 1999, where he practices podiatric medicine at Gaston Foot and Ankle Associates. He loves educating his patients and treating them as family. He is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is Board Certified in Foot Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He also is a member of the North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society. In his spare time, Dr. Santiago loves spending time with God, his wife and family. His family consists of his wife, Tina, and three adult children, Jessica, Lucas and Blake. He enjoys reading the Holy Bible, teaching Christian apologetics, spending time outdoors, weightlifting, and music of all genres. Dr. Santiago believes that compassion, education and spending time with your patients is the cornerstone of podiatry and life. if you treat people the way you expect to be treated, it will create an enjoyable environment for practicing medicine that can be sustained for your entire career. Dr. Santiago’s favorite scripture verse is Philippians 1:21, “For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” This verse summarizes his life while on earth and what transpires when he dies.
