Leading Foot and Ankle Medical Practice Adds Three Podiatrists

Rockville, MD (July 2015) – Foot and Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic (FASMA) is proud to announce the addition of three new associate podiatrists, creating the largest medical practice in the Mid-Atlantic region – and the second largest in the United States – specializing in foot and ankle medicine. FASMA operates 21 locations with 33 doctors.

Dr. Hetal Kathrotiya-Mago is a Maryland native. She grew up in Laurel, Maryland. She graduated with academic honors from University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Dr. Kathrotiya-Mago received her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University, School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. While in podiatric medical school, she actively served on the boards of the Diabetic Awareness Club, American Association for Women Podiatrists and the American Professional Wound Care Association. Dr. Kathrotiya-Mago completed a three-year comprehensive foot and ankle surgical residency at Roxborough Memorial Hospital (Prime Healthcare) in Philadelphia, PA. She was selected to serve as the chief resident during her final year of her surgical residency. Dr. Kathrotiya-Mago enjoys all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery. She has a particular interest in dermatology, sports medicine, reconstructive surgery, diabetic wound care, and limb salvage. She treats patients of all ages. She is a team-player with a deep dedication to serve her patients. Dr. Kathrotiya-Mago strives to make patients informed and actively participates in their foot and ankle care. Dr. Kathrotiya-Mago will be practicing in FASMA’s Silver Spring/Olney location.

Dr. Vinay Matai is a graduate of Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine. He has completed a three year advanced Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery Residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown University Hospital. During his residency he was privileged to be trained and directed by Dr. John S. Steinberg, a leader in Diabetic Limb Salvage and preventative medicine, along with Dr. Christopher Attinger, world-renowned plastic surgeon in the field of limb salvage.  Although he has been well trained in all areas of podiatric surgery from complex rearfoot reconstructive surgery to forefoot surgery, he has developed a passion for preventative medicine and diabetic limb salvage. He also has a strong interest in Sports Medicine and Trauma.  While in residency, Dr. Matai has researched multiple different topics related to the diabetic foot and its complications. He has presented at national and international conferences, using these multiple platforms to gain exposure in the academia arena, with plans to continue educating others.  Aside from research, Dr. Matai has held various executive positions throughout his undergraduate and graduate career. While at MedStar, Dr. Matai gained interest in patient safety and quality improvement projects, and became one of the founders of the  Quality Improvement Patient Safety (QIPS) Council. This project allowed him to gain the opportunity of a lifetime as a Telluride Patient Safety scholar and alumnus. He, along with residents of all specialties from across the United States, came together with hopes to improve patient safety on a local and national level. He currently still serves as a mentor to the QIPS Council. Dr. Matai will be practicing in FASMA’s Silver Spring/Fenton and DC-I locations.

Dr. Caitlin Mahan Madden received her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in 2011. She then continued her training in Philadelphia with extensive forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle surgical experience at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. This four-year program included acute foot and ankle trauma, reconstructive principles, diabetic limb salvage and wound care, along with multiple non-podiatric medical and surgical rotations. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She is a native of southern New Jersey and grew up learning about podiatry from her father, a well-respected podiatrist, professor and administrator. Dr. Madden is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Madden will be joining the Shady Grove, Wheaton and Rockville FASMA locations.
