Dr. Saylee Tulpule, DPM Podiatrist Foot and Ankle Doctor

GET TO KNOW THE DOCS SERIES

People rarely discover anything about the professionals they receive services from beyond their interaction with them in the work environment.

This week, Dr. Saylee Tulpule, a Podiatrist here at Foot & Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic, discusses various topics ranging from moments in her life that molded her journey into the field, to her favorite travel destination.

Enjoy!

1) Why did you choose the field of podiatry as your profession?

I chose the field of podiatry when my mother developed plantar fasciitis during my third year of college. My mother was a grade school teacher at the time and after a countless number of years standing and teaching,  she developed moderate heel pain and was treated by a local podiatrist in Phoenix, Arizona. I was given the opportunity to shadow him for the summer and the profession really excited me.  I knew that my career path would eventually lead me in the same direction and I’ve never regretted it since.

2) What are your interests outside of working? How do you balance work/life?

Outside of work, I love traveling and fine dining. I also have a very active toddler who keeps me busy with social activities and parenting!

3) What would you like your legacy to be once you retire?

I would like to be remembered as an honest, hard-working podiatrist who provided exceptional care to her patients.

4) What exciting new directions would like you like the field of podiatry to take within the next ten years?

I would love podiatry to offer more minimally invasive surgery and continue to utilize stem cells/orthobiologics for healing purposes.

5) What is your favorite travel destination?

Italy! The culture, food, history, and beauty are amazing and entice me to come visit again and again!

6) If you weren’t a podiatrist, who would you rather be?

A pediatrician. I’ve always loved children :)

7) Name one person who has influenced your career path the most in life.

My mother. As I was pursuing pre-med in college, she was being treated for plantar fasciitis and because of her,  I decided to research the field of podiatry and ultimately, chose it as my profession.

8) Name one moment in your career that improved your practice style.

Early in my career, a patient of mine developed a deep venous thrombosis. Her entire care experience taught me to be extremely thorough in my clinical evaluation and treatment plan for every patient under my expertise.

9) What is your favorite meal?

My mother’s home-cooked Indian food, a glass of red wine, and a double scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream to top it off!
