FASMA Dr. Howard Osterman Featured in Business Insider

Foot and Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic, LLC podiatrist Dr. Howard Osterman (Silver Spring and DC-I Street Divisions) was featured in a recent Business Insider article titled “Feet: The Foundation for Fitness and Health.”

Dr. Osterman offered advice as an American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) spokesman and as a podiatric consultant to the Washington Wizards.  Building strength in the feet is important in preventing injury and increasing whole body balance and stability.

Simple exercises, such as picking up small objects with the feet, can help build arch strength.  “We don’t need the toes to have the dexterity of fingers but we do need some dexterity,” he said. “We need the muscles to have strength.”

Dr. Osterman is a diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine.  He serves as Vice President of the District of Columbia Podiatric Medicine Association, Vice President of the DC Chapter of the International Diabetes Athlete’s Association, and is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).  He also serves as podiatric consultant to the Washington Wizards.
